Verspillingsvrije Week Maastricht 2026

From theme to movement

Maastricht Verspillingsvrije Week 2026

How do you ensure that an important issue such as food waste not only receives attention, but also truly comes to life in a city?

For the Verspillingsvrije Week Maastricht 2026, SESSIBON developed a local concept that brought together, highlighted and mobilised both existing and new initiatives tackling food waste.

The challenge

A great deal is already happening in Maastricht to tackle food waste. However, many initiatives are unaware of one another, are not always visible to a wider public and often operate within their own networks.
Our idea was simple: what would happen if you brought all that energy together?

Not by trying to have all the answers ourselves, but by giving organisations, entrepreneurs, educational institutions and initiative-takers a platform, connecting them with one another and, where necessary, helping to bring ideas to life.

From idea to implementation

SESSIBON developed the overarching concept and brought the various components together. We approached and engaged stakeholders, helped initiatives move forward with ideas and formats, developed new activities and built a central website showcasing the programme and the initiatives.

In addition, we organised and produced the joint kick-off event at Studio Radium and ensured cohesion, communication and visibility throughout the week.
So, not one big campaign, but a network of initiatives that reinforced one another.
A deliberate experiment.

From the outset, we viewed this first Maastricht edition as an experiment.
Can we raise the profile of existing initiatives? Can we mobilise new organisations? Can we connect people and organisations working on the same theme? And will this subsequently generate new energy? The answer following this first edition is, above all: yes, and it has left us wanting more.

The strength lay not only in what happened during de Verspillingsvrije Week, but precisely in the connections that were forged. Organisations got to know one another, ideas were shared, and food waste was highlighted from various angles.

This is exactly where we like to get involved

For SESSIBON, this case is a fine example of how we approach live communication and activation. We don’t start with a stage, an event or a campaign, but with the question: what do we want to set in motion? We then develop the concept, bring the right people together and translate that into activation, content, communication and live moments that reinforce one another.

Verspillingsvrije Week Maastricht was an experiment.
A rather successful experiment. And as far as we’re concerned, it’s just the beginning.
